The Michelin Guide was first established in 1900 by the Michelin Tire company in order to sell more cars to French consumers.
The modern guide inspects restaurants on the following 5 criteria: Quality of products, Mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, The personality of the chef represented in the dining experience, Value for money, and Consistency between inspector visits.
Currently, the five countries with the most starred restaurants are mostly Westernized countries, such as France, Italy, Germany, and the USA.
